New York at Christmas
Mrs Freak and I both celebrating our 50th birthdays - I was last week she is next week. Fancied doing something a bit different so we are going to New York for a long weekend. Anyone been this time of year, anything we must see or other recommendations?

"The jewish family's we knew ate Chinese food and went to the movies on Xmas."

I have heard that quite a bit. Maybe they were just open or the families didn't want to intrude on others who celebrated Christmas (unlike the Chinese).

The KFC in Japan on Christmas is a fun one to me. Has to be one most successful marketing campaign to come out of nowhere.

@moncurs putting iron. Just arrived and am reading though the latest posts looking for some more tip top advise. I now feel like an absolutely massive twat for posting something so unreasonable. Don't post often, think I'll just crawl but into my shell :-)

Bigger in terms of personal involvement or bigger in terms of financial transactions?

I've found Thanksgiving to be the bigger holiday in the US.

Of course IOC, just saying I think we are more religious on a whole and and therefore the holiday is still the biggest of the year here in America..

To be fair its a lot of tradition and commercialization with the believing at this point.

The majority (maybe a slimmer one at this point) of Native Americans are Christian the biggest other chunk are not much of anything but it doesn't stop them from celebrating Christmas .

People always take holidays at Christmas so unless you have a really awful or vital job, no one is just having just one day.

For instance they are college bowl games during the day, a bit before but certainly through the Christmas to New Years week and the day after New Years. The most famous ones tend to be Jan 2. They would not have them if everyone was working.

Kids are off, students are off, people take or get it off.

Obviously not the Jews, Muslims, Native Americans and Atheists though.

Xmas is bigger

Thanksgiving is great as it’s real family time but Xmas is still a bigger holiday as we Americans are still believers.

Some Old Indian Bloke is Coming to Town

The biggest festival in the US and barely a reference to it in popular culture. A retail sector almost entirely dominated by Christmas for two months. The world's largest film and entertainment industry almost entirely devoted to Christmas for a month.

But ask a few silly, gluttonous, middle-aged Brits in sandals, who probably bake their own bread and grind really good coffee and like a good feed without the kids getting over-excited, and suddenly Christmas is not as big as it is in the UK and 'it's more about Thanksgiving'

Re: New York at Christmas
The septics only get one day for Xmas and as Thanksgiving is 4 days inc weekend they tend to get together as a family then. Remember family members can be spread across different states. Black friday (companies get in the black not red) is a result of buying xmas presents on the cheap to leave with family. So generally TG is bigger I would say.

So is that explanation enough you thick cunts.

Re: New York at Christmas
maybe have a look at your question?

why would I say that xmas is a bigger deal than thanksgiving when i've consistently said the complete opposite?

i'd have thought the answer was blindingly obvious.

as for your comfy hill, i have no idea why someone would take exception to a fairly innocuous post - and then spend 4 days trying to argue the impossible.

you crack on though.

I don't see how I'm 'dying on a hill' here, mate.

I'm asking for a simple yes or no to a simple binary question. You seem unwilling to answer, instead reverting to your usual evasiveness and deflection.

Silly, not quite twice as big as April Fool's Day, person.

Surface, aside from keep posting the same thing - i'm not sure how i can be any clearer with you? I've said the same thing from the off.

Like I said before, you've picked a particularly odd hill to die upon here.

Goose

So, just to be clear, you are agreeing that Christmas is a bigger deal than Thanksgiving in the states?

Trundle

Have a word with yourself, mate. If I can get Goose to disagree with the statement, 'the sky is blue' are you going to come running to his defence?

Silly stalky person, Get a life. I can't even remember what it is I posted to upset you so much.
